We are sorry to hear that you have been given an appointment in a months time for the phlebotomy service. Wendy ward does operate a booking system for non urgent children's blood test, and covers the whole borough of Hillingdon. There is one phlebotomist and it is an extremely busy service which means at times there can be a delay. We aim to see all children as soon as possible. The adult services consists of a number of phlebotomists which therefore allows them the flexibility to offer a walk in service. All our local GPs are aware of how the children's phlebotomy service is provided and they will make the decision if the blood test is urgent or not. If they deem the test to be urgent the referral pathway would be either through our children's accident and emergency department or through an urgent referral to our paediatric out patients department. I think it is important that you discuss your ongoing concerns with your GP who will make a decision about whether your son needs a referral to the paediatric team at the hospital.
