"CardioRespiratory Department"

About: Doncaster Royal Infirmary

Had to attend the above department owing to having discovered that I suffer from Sleep Apnoea. I attended at the Main entrance reception desk and was directed to the correct department receptionist. Both receptionist's were very Polite and welcoming. Both had a big smile and directed me to where I had to go. I was sat for approximately 5 minutes, when I was called in by a nurse who took my height, weight and blood pressure and chatted to me all the time, putting me at ease. After a further 10 minutes, I was called in to speak to the doctor, who after asking me a number of pertinent questions, informed me of the fact that I did have Sleep Apnoea. He showed me all the information relating to tests I had had previously and explained in language that I could understand what was going to happen next and what to expect in the future. I then attended at the reception in order to book my next two visits. Owing to already committed future appointments, and the fact that I was to be away for more than 4 months. The receptionist went out of her way to try and get me two appointments that fitted between my already busy schedule. She stated that she would contact me by phone as soon as she could confirm my appointments. After leaving the Hospital, the receptionist did contact me, but one of the appointments coincided with an already booked commitment. I did say that as it was so short notice I would leave the appointments until I returned in October. To my pleasant surprise, the receptionist refused to accept the defeat, and after another short wait came back with two appointments that fitted my time scale. How can anyone say that Nurses, Doctors and Admin staff in our NH service are below standard. They are over worked and under staffed. But I have obviously been very lucky in that I have never been dealt with by anyone who hasn't been Professional, Polite, and caring about my personal feelings and medical problems. A big thank you to Doncaster Hospital as a whole and to all the staff who keep it running.
