"Unacceptable wait time , disorganised maternity..."

About: Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital

Late in pregnancy and very uncomfortable my sons girlfriend visited the hospital for tests and advice , having traveled 25 miles from their home ( their allocated maternity service ) they waited for two hours to see a doctor who hadn't a clue what to do and said they should wait to see an obstetric registrar ( the hospital which serves an area of many thousands had only 1 obstetric registrar on the premises who was in theatre ) and so they waited , more and more uncomfortable , anxious , hungry and tired , 4 hours later they still hadn't been seen . My vet doesn't treat animals this way !!! The irony is both of them and myself work for the nhs !!! Finally 6 hours and 25 minutes later , fobbed off with a prescription and sent home ... Terrible care for a distressed mother to be .

Response from Sally Smith, Chief Nurse and Director Of Quality, East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust

Thank you so much for contacting us. I am so sorry to hear of your son's girlfriend's experience. It sounds very distressing and not the standard of care we would expect. Please feel free to email me on sally.smith2@nhs.net and I will ask the Matron of the department to look into your concerns and see what else we can do to help you. I do hope your son's girlfriend is feeling better. Best regards, Sally
