"Left in pain while I wait for an appointment"

About: Tameside General Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

I asked my GP to refer me to Tameside. This was a big mistake.

The nurse practitioner faxed an urgent referral in mid May - I rang up after 2 weeks and finally in early June I'm told that the 1st available appt for an urgent is almost 6 weeks away.

Sorry, but when you are ill, in pain and feeling sick all the time that is not acceptable. There should be a maximum of 2 week wait for patients to see a consultant in cases like this. I can't go back to my doctor, as I have now been referred to the hospital. The doctor says if pain gets unbearable I should go to A&E, but they won't do anything as I have an appt. In the meantime I'm just left to suffer. It's a disgrace and shouldn't be allowed to happen

Thank you for your comment, it is difficult to give specific answers without more detail, each case would be assessed from the referral from your GP.

If you would like a more personalized response please can you contact Matron Liz Penny on 0161 922 5356

Kind regards

John Goodenough
