I have been very shocked and surprised today at St James ward 29, I went to visit my father in law early morning as I do not live near and had permission to do so, a student doctor went to the patient next to my father in law and took blood, 10 minutes later another student doctor went to the same patient to take blood the patient seemed semi conscious so I said he had just had his blood taken, so then the doctor checked the patients wrist band with the name on the board above the bed and it did not match, the student doctor called a member of staff to ask why the names were different it turns out the patient had the wrong wrist band on it belonged to another patient in a different ward. You hear of patients being operated on for the wrong thing and now I can see why, goodness knows what could have happened to the poor man if the student doctor had not checked the names.
