"My experience of planned Hospital admission and surgery."

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Dental University Hospital Monklands / Dental

(as the patient),

I was referred by my dentist for possible extraction of severely impacted wisdom teeth. I had an assessment appointment at Hairmyres NHS Lanarkshire and a pre-admission appointment at Monklands Hospital NHS Lanarkshire. Each of these was within the predicted timescale.

I was then admitted to Monklands Hospital in NHS Lanarkshire for the extraction of 3 wisdom teeth. I wish to advise of the POSITIVE experience I had during my short admission for this procedure. I was admitted and was taken down to surgery within 30 minutes (I know this won't be everybody's experience). I had surgery under General Anaesthetic which was a pretty relaxed experience and after a short period of recovery was discharged home. I wish to express that despite the horror stories I was furnished with by friends etc I had only a positive experience of my treatment.

A simple story however, in a culture of tearing apart public services and where all that hits the headlines is negative press I just feel that it is important to share the positive also.

Dear yims,

Thank you for sharing your positive experience with us, your kind words are very much appreciated.

We try very hard to learn from all patient experiences, both positive and negative, to ensure that we continue to improve upon our services and I’m delighted that you’ve taken time and effort to let us know the things we are doing right. I will of course pass your comments on to the relevant department on your behalf.

I hope you have fully recovered following your procedure and wish you well for the future.

Kind Regards,

Leigh
