My 13 year old daughter has quite complex health condition and has been under the care of specialist surgery since the day she was born, so we have quite a lot of experience of the system. She was put on the waiting list for spinal fusion surgery in Feb 2014. We were told it would be within 4-6 months. After her symptoms progressed and her condition deteriorated we were told at the beginning of March she was a category 1 patient and surgery was required more urgently. The time scale we were given by her consultant was within 6-8 weeks.
After no real communication from the hospital and then a lot of pushing for a date on our behalf we have finally been given a provisional date of the end of July which really isn't acceptable. There appears to be a commissioning issue but this has left my daughter to struggle on regardless and her mental health is now starting to suffer. There has been limited correspondence from the hospital keeping us updated as a family to help us reassure our daughter that people do care about her.
This leaves us very frustrated and disappointed as previously the care and support we have received has been outstanding. We would really like to highlight this issue with commissioners to save another family from going through what we are going through but we're not sure where to go. We say services shouldn't promise procedures and treatment and then not deliver on promises.
