"Thank you all staff at the Leeds General Infirmary"

About: Leeds General Infirmary

(as the patient),

I was a patient on ward 63 at the Leeds General Infirmary for the treatment of skin cancer. Waiting was a problem. I arrived at 12:20 for a 12:30 appointment. I went into theatre at approximately 16:00. Whilst waiting, there was no decent reading material and no drinks were offered.

Parking is extremely poor at the LGI, especially if you are disabled.

The doctors and staff were excellent, as was the aftercare.

Thank you all.

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience at Leeds General Infirmary. I am sorry to hear that you had a long wait on this occasion.

I shall pass your comments about the parking and the reading material to the Patient Relations Manager at the hospital.

The Patient Relations Manager will also pass on your thanks to the staff on ward 63.

I am sorry to hear that you found the parking poor at Leeds General Infirmary (LGI). We can confirm that 30% per cent of parking at the LGI is allocated to disabled spaces. In addition there are traffic staff on duty at all main approach points to hospital parking areas to give assistance. The traffic staff will also arrange for badge holders to be given access to staff parking areas within the multi storey car park, where a lift is available.

We do hope you do not find parking to be such a problem in the future.

I am sorry to hear that your experience on Ward 63 was not to your satisfaction.

We have been informed by the hospital that unfortunately all patients are asked to attend at 12.30 p.m. in order that the Surgeon and Anaesthetist can check them prior to the theatre list starting. Patients should be informed on arrival of their estimated time to theatre. We are sorry that this does not appear to have happened in your case.

If you required a general anaesthetic, then you would not have been allowed any food or refreshment. However, if you were having a local anaesthetic patients are advised they can have fluids. Clearly our communication on this matter should have been much better and we do extend our apologies that this was not the case.

The nursing staff provide magazines for patients to read and we are sorry if on this occasion that there was nothing that was suitable for you.

We are pleased to hear that you found the doctors, staff and aftercare to be excellent
