I had been diagnosed with an ovarian cyst , which could have had worrying consequences - I was admitted on 7th May for pre-op procedures and had a total hysterectomy with removal of cyst, ovaries and tubes on 8th May. I felt safe and well looked after throughout the process - the nurses, doctors and anaesthetists could not have been more attentive. Post operatively I was very well cared for immediately after surgery and suffered no pain or discomfort because of prompt administration of medications. I was also informed immediately of how well the operation had gone, and that the cyst had been removed whole, lessening any risks of further illness. The following morning at 7.10 am I was amazed to have a visit from my surgeon - just checking I was ok ! I felt comfortably wrapped in a warm blanket of care and genuine concern - and I don't think that feeling was generated by the morphine I was having !! Lovely nurses helped me out of bed later on 9th May, and I was allowed home on 10th May with medication and telephone numbers to ring if necessary. I have to say that I have made a very swift recovery - and the wound has healed very well. My only problem is having to rein myself in from trying to do too much too soon because I feel so well ! Many thanks to all on Ward D27, and to the Consultant Surgeon in Gynae./Oncology, and to the Clinical Nurse Specialist, for kind advice over the phone after I was discharged.
