"Appalling care"

About: National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery - Queen Square

I was a Private patient on the Nuffield Ward at the NHNN. Despite paying for my care I was only "Slotted in for my procedure and not given a timed theatre time" My appointment was booked three weeks prior to my surgery date. My surgery was a muscle biopsy. I payed £1173 for being slotted in. The surgeon despite me asking to meet with him in my private room to discuss the procedure refused. I saw him down in theatre. Although he had clean scrubs on he wore white cloggs and these were clearly splattered with either blood or iodine. Not clean!! The muscle biopsy despite being told I would only feel a bit of tugging was excruciatingly painful and despite having to go through the actual biopsy without any pain relief which was a must to get the results, the surgeon despite being fully aware of the pain I was in at the point where he could have given me pain relief just continued to cauterize and perform internal stitches with out any pain relief. He did not offer any pain relief but was fully aware of my pain. I was taken back to the ward at 5 p.m. Not one member of the nursing staff came to see how I was or came to see if I needed any pain relief. It was at 6 p.m. my father and I had had enough of the appalling care we decided to leave. When I got up to change I was in so much pain I could barely stand on the leg that had the biopsy done on it. My father went to find a nurse to ask if I could have some crutches. He was told it was now out of hours and that having any crutches would not be possible. ( I had to make my way to Waterloo station and then catch a train to Somerset). I was also not offered any pain relief. I have forwarded a complaint regarding my appalling care and so far it appears on the Nuffield Private Ward that after 5 p.m. as a patient you cannot have access to Physiotherapist who have to o.k the use of crutches. After 5 p.m. you do not get access to the Pain relief team. I would definiately not recommend the Nuffield Private ward. My complaint is being forwarded for independent investigation into the failure in my care.
