"Fall in ward 7"

About: Wansbeck Hospital

My mother was on ward 7 waiting to be discharged, while in the care of the staff in ward 7 she had a very nasty fall. She needed a hip replacement due to a fractured hip, her arm was also fractured in 2 places. She is now in Blyth hospital frightened to get out of bed. I have had no contact from the hospital to let me know what action has been taken. I am the sole carer for my mother, she will need a lot of care and I feel this is due to nelect.

Dear Sir/Madam I am so sorry to hear that your mother has fallen whilst in hospital and sustained such significant injuries. I can absolutely understand why she feels so frightened about the risk of falling again – I can also fully appreciate your concerns for her safety and well being. Your post is anonymous and so, unfortunately, it’s hard for me to respond with more detail. It is so important that families and carers are kept fully informed at all stages of a patients care and I am very sorry that this has not been the case for you. Could you contact me at Annie.laverty@northumbria-healthcare.nhs.uk please, as I would really like to help. Best wishes Annie
