"Break dancing injury"

About: Heartlands Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

We hear so much bad press about the N.H.S mainly because the people of Britain love to moan Here's the N.H.S on a normal day.

Earlier this month:

On a night out down the local pub having a few drinks and dancing like me dad, everything going fine and every bodies enjoying themselves then bang down I go and my ankle had snapped {that's break dancing}.

Within 5minutes the ambulance crew are at the pub and accessing my situation. I'm on my way to East Birmingham Hospital.....

Upon arrival to the A and E department I was introduced to the team that was going to look after me, sent off to X Ray within 15 minutes I was back in A and E. The guys wrapped up my ankle. filled me full of pain killer and put me to bed,

The next morning I was put on Rowan the trauma ward (nil by mouth ).

I lay there watching the staff go by their day to day duties and going the extra mile shaving, feeding, chatting to the other patients and just being of a happy disposition, It goes a long way to help the healing process (For the full 12 hours )

That afternoon I went down to have my ops and again the staff were great keeping me informed of everything that was about to happen now, when I came round, the nice thing here was it was the same two guys when I woke up. (great move guys)

Back to my ward the nurses were waiting "would you like a coffee, would you like some toast", They were great, treating me like a king, I went home the next day but really wanted to stop as I haven't been pampered like that for an age.

That was only two weeks ago eight screws and ten stitches later

I'm now an outpatient with a long road to travel but I have the best team behind me and that's the guys at the East Birmingham N, H, S.

Special Thanks to The guys at

Dear brummie 518

Glad to hear things worked well for you here at Heartlands Hospital. I'll make sure your comments are shared with the team & many thanks for taking the time to leave feedback.

We make sure all stories are discussed at our senior team meetings and rely on feedback to both validate the improvements we're making or drive other change as necessary so thank you once again.

Best wishes

Iona
