"Attitude to strokes"

About: Victoria Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as a relative),

5am wife fell in living room, thinking it was her sugar, I attempted a choc biscuit to no avail, so called 999. Rapid response was great 4 minutes! ! 5am wife fell in living room, thinking it was her sugar, I attempted a choc biscuit to no avail, so called 999. Rapid response was great 4 minutes! !

Whipped to Victoria hospital and Left for 5 1/2 Hours with NO Scan or blood clot injections Night Doctor refused to treat wife and accept my TimeLines, though I'm a professional too, and spent most of their time not treating the wife, but talking to the staff about their previous life abroad. NHSfife could Not find this doctor or where they lived, Also fife 's stroke policy is that a scan only has to be carried out in 24 to 30 hours! Strange, the person in the next cubicle, who fell down stairs got a scan 1 1/2 hours after admission, and arriving after my wife. So much for the TV adverts asking people to watch for FAST & dial 999. My wife was in hospital for 9 months, is partial paralysed, cannot speak, and is Brain Damaged.

After a complaint by my MSP I met the A & E and ward staff, who, in my opinion, lied, and they could even do that with all the facts in black and white. At 63 years young, we used to look up to the medical Doctors and Consultants, but when asked at the investigation, these 2 consultants stated that high Oxygen doses were of no use and would not help as my wife's brain was dead! .. Dead no and why do other Countries like USA ,Canada, Australia, New Zealand and some in Europe, give saturated Oxygen at the scene to Stroke Victims ?

Dear "Moaner 333"

Thank you for sharing your experience on Patient Opinion, your situation sounds awful and I certainly do recall a complaint of this nature.

I am deeply sorry that you remain so aggrieved despite having had the opportunity to meet with staff. We do usually find that face to face meetings provide the best opportunity to discuss issue like this; however we recognise that it does not always lead to resolution, sadly.

I would like to offer you a further opportunity to meet with Dr G Birnie, who is the Medical Director for our Acute Services here in NHS Fife. We would be keen to see if there is anything else we can do to help address your ongoing concerns.

If you would like to take up the offer of a meeting please contact Mrs L Ewing, Patient Relations Manager on 01592 648153. She will be able to make the necessary arrangements and can act as a point of contact.

Regards

Heather Knox

Director for Acute Services

NHS Fife

Dear "Moaner 333"

I am deeply sorry to read what you have to say and can understand your distress.

I note what my colleague, Heather Knox, has said in her response and would hope that you feel able to take up the offer of a further meeting and allow us the opportunity to address your concerns further.

Best wishes,

Update posted by Moaner 333 (a relative)

Due to my Letter being altered slightly, The actual Facts have went astray!! I met some staff, and am not calling these other hard working Staff Liers..

The interview meeting was with certain staff.

So my wife was looked after well by ward staff in the Victoria.
