"i had total knee replacement april 15 2014"

About: Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital

I am a 52 year old female who has inherited her father's arthritic knees. Throughout my life the knees have had 7 arthroscopic procedures between them . After a big fall down stairs on my knee it all got to much. The GP referred me and I saw Mr Gallager a consummate professional who straight away informed me by use of the xrays I had taken on entering the clinic that the only way forward was a TKR . Shocked is an understatement . I really thought he would say another arthroscopy .although relatively young for a TKR he said that the joint was a mess and this would help me so much. Admission day came and from the minute we stepped foot in this marvellous hospital the treatment was faultless. They send you a form asking if you want private accommodation whilst your in hospital , why have that when the ward is spotless .the food was like home. Everything was fresh and tasted delicious. The staff couldn't do enough for me. I had a spinal with sedation .although I used to be a theatre nurse for 23 years scared was an understatement. The pre theatre nurse was so calming.they even wrap you in warmed blankets as the nerves seem to shut everything down . The anaesthetic visited me on the ward so we had met .constant reassurances were given and the procedure went well .I had my iPod in to listen to in between dosing .back on the ward as ide been starved they had fresh sandwiches and a lovely cup a tea waiting . Once the spinal had worn off the pain set in and although that was my biggest problem the staff continually kept asking how it was and did their best to keep me comfortable. The physiotherapist keep you moving bring big bags of ice too put on the joint to help with the swelling. It's cruel to be kind as getting the new joint moving is the key to getting mobile and active . I was discharged after 4 days. The whole experience was 5 star .I could not fault it and feel proud that I have had this new knee from the Robert Jones and Agnus Hunt Orthopedic Hospital .Thank you each and every person involved in giving me this knee. .
