"Bad communication and poor care"

About: Glenrothes Hospital NHS Fife Victoria Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I was badly let down by my local health service. I am 20 years old and started experiencing severe back pain around 14 months ago. At first I was dismissed by doctors because of my age. Eventually, after seeing 2 different doctors and visiting A&E I was given pain relief. This however was no help. I was still getting the pain. In August last year, a shooting pain in my back caused me to fall down the stairs in my home which led to me being rushed to hospital in an ambulance on a stretcher, immobilised with a collar on. An x-ray was done at the hospital (but not of the problem area) and more painkillers given along with a set of crutches. As the months went on the pain remained and I was not given any follow-up by the hospital or GP. Eventually in November I was given 2 physio appointments and then discharged. After much arguing and visits to 3 more doctors I was given an xray and some blood tests in March. These came back clear and so I was told to have some acupuncture. I had my first 2 sessions last week and it was a disaster. The nurse made me bleed badly and I am still bruised a week later and I am still in agony. Went to my GP today to complain and was given more painkillers and told I would just need to put up with it til the pain went away. I am so angry and feel incredibly let down.
