"Getting my life back!"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske)

Following breast screening in Feb this year, I was recalled for extra mammograms & biopsies. This unfortunately led to a diagnosis of breast cancer. From my very first visit to the Mermaid centre I was (and continue to be, as I have yet to finish my treatment!) impressed with the care & concern shown by all the staff. At a time when you are reeling in shock, they were compassionate, informative, optimistic & professional. I had a therapeutic mammoplasty at RCHT just over two weeks ago. My hospital stay was one night, I was very well monitored, the staff on Tolgus ward were brilliant, even so I was feeling so well I was keen to get home! As felt so normal, could hardly believe I'd had a major op'! Had my follow up appointment, & told to take it easy as my wound was still sore-no-one's fault but my own! Maybe clearer guidelines could be given to patients on discharge. The result of the operation is amazing, I'm looking forward to having my other breast operated on to give me a matching set. Huge thanks to the consultant for his care & treatment throughout, I really do feel you have given me my life back. Thank you.
