i attended a orthotic clinic with my son josh on 3/3/14 josh has cerebral palsy and wears a AFO on his left leg he had outgrown his current splint suffering from blisters and severe pain we were told that this appointment would be to recast joshs foot for a new one however when we got there the orthotist informed us that the splint was fine and would last another 6 weeks after fighting joshs corner and showing them his blisters and pointing out that joshs toes were over the end of his splint we were refused help as our physio watched on and gave no support whatsoever when i got home upset and angry i looked in to taking josh for an independant opinion and new AFOs if necessary we were pointed in the direction of salford university where a teacher in orthotics informed us only days after WGH appointment that the AFO that josh was wearing was not fit for purpose, had been causing joshs blisters and was far too small josh was recast that day and now wears day and night AFOs and the difference in his walking and general wellbeing is unbeliveable he is a different child i am disgusted at the treatment we recived at Blackhall Unit WGH my son also has severe learning difficulties hydrocephalus, and epilepsy so to be treated in this way felt like we were on our own fighting,i felt like i had let him down josh dosent complain so its my job to be his voice and no one was listenig and no one gave a damn i will not ever trust them with joshs care again, the trip to manchester is well worth it and we will carry on doing that for as long as we need too !!!
"childrens orthotic department a disgrace"
