"son being "underweight" based on guidebooks"

About: City Health Care Partnership CIC / Health visiting

(as a parent/guardian),

since getting a new health visitor ive been put under the spotlight because he doesnt meet with their guidebooks! had to keep repeating that im not worried we are a small family and none of my kids have been the "correct" size for their ages. this health visitor made my son have bloodtests and put through that terror because of ignorance, the bloods came back normal as I expected and the consultant took note of mine and dads sizes and concluded he is in fact where he should be based on our family!

these people make my blood boil, I know my children more than a non medical "professional" does and if I was worried I wouldn't waste my time with these people I'd take them to the GP who is medically trained and doesnt' base every child on a silly guidebook. All kids are different! I will not allow a health visitor near my children again ever!

Dear Parent,

I am extremely sorry to hear you have not been satisfied with the service you received from your health visitor. Our health visitors all strive to provide the highest quality of service and support to parents of children under five years old in Hull.

They are all qualified registered nurses who have then undertaken a research-based accredited course with a University, which in turn equips them to assess children’s health needs and provide help and advice as a result.

Our guidance on monitoring children’s growth is also a nationally-recognised formula, which is research based and is used by medical staff and paediatricians throughout the country.

Any blood tests carried out after assessing a child usually take place following a discussion with a doctor, GP or paediatrician, when parents are also consulted.

As I don't know the details of your case or the specific protocols followed I'm afraid I can't make a proper assessment of the appropriateness of our Health Visitor's actions; if you'd like to ring me we can discuss it in more detail. If you would rather have a face to face contact I am happy to meet you at somewhere that's convenient for you.

Once again I apologise for any distress you have experienced.
