"Disgrace!"

About: Darlington Memorial Hospital

Firstly I'd like to say that this isn't aimed at all members of staff on the maternity ward. In the labour ward the staff were spot on after failed vaginal birth and suction cups failed I had to have an emergancy section as my sons heart rate dropped and my blood pressure went through the roof. They were fantastic after with the care after birth and during my recovery, they even took care of me when I had an reaction to the clexane and took back to the labour ward to be looked after (why they didn't leave me on the post natal ward I don't know) . The same can't be said about the postnatal ward. Like stated at the top it wasn't all members of staff! * I was there for a week after day 3 it seemed like I was more of a burden then someone under there care. * When I asked for someone to come and help me was down below (as I still couldn't move my legs properly to do it myself) 2 and a half hours later my mam ends up doing it. * When I asked for my bed to be changed or have fresh sheets to do it myself (as my son had been sick on them) I was greeted with the reply 'why should I do it' * WHen returning to the ward after my reaction I asked if I was returning to the same room I was in before I was told no as there was no spaces however 10mins in my new room the person next to me moves to that room. There was a reason why I wanted to go back there as 2 of my friends were in that room. When trying to go and see them I was told I couldn't leave my room, so basically I had to sit and state at three curtains for 7 days and nights. * Getting accused of something in front of a room full of guests which proved not to be the case. But still I didn't receive an apology. * Being made to feel like you couldn't even ask for pain relief and when you did it took over an hour to get it. These are just a few of the problems I had with them. People need to know what this specific service is like my advice ladies- go to Durham. I wasn't the only person to have problems over my stay at least another 2. There is no chance if be returning to this hospital if I had an option. Especially the maternity service. Like I said labour ward spot in.
