"Visit to emergency dept with teenager with special needs"

About: East Surrey Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

My son who is severely autistic and has learning difficulties, had an accident which resulted in the need to visit ESH Emergency Dept for stitches. Because of his Special Needs, which include the risk of seizures in times of stress I was understandably apprehensive about our visit as well as being very concerned about my son and his injury. Luckily we didn't have to wait long to be seen and the nurse who dealt with him was wonderful! She was quick and efficient as well as being extremely kind and caring and her manner was very reassuring. She ensured that he had adequate pain relief and fully informed us of follow up appts etc. As a result when my son was discharged he was free of pain, stitched and relaxed and calm! Thank you x

Dear Special Needs Mum

I am so pleased to hear how reassuring our Emergency Department nurse was and that your son was relaxed and calm when he left.

I hope he is on the mend soon and will make sure you kind words are passed on to the team in ED.

kind regards

Tasha
