"Emergency care great follow up outpatients..."

About: Frimley Park Hospital (Frimley)

I was admitted after a cycling accident and diagnosed with fractured clavicle and scapula. Initial treatment was good. Though the clavicle was quite messed up, more evident from CT scan than X-ray. I needed to return two days later due to extreme pain and had a sister slag me off to other members of staff within earshot of me saying that basically I was pathetic and had to 'put up with the pain'. (This is after pain so acute that I hadn't moved AT ALL for 24 hours!). The follow up appointment (mismatching date and day) meant that it was later than it should have been. Nothing more needed to be done apparently - ignored evidence in CT scan! Went private at this point when I realised the mess my shoulder was in. To then come back with some patronising letter later that I failed to attend follow up meeting (which I had cancelled through their own processes) and assumed I was now fully functional. The letter I sent in response explaining the situation and stating that their side was incorrect received no response. From that I can only assume they are not interested in improving their healthcare. So Emergency treatment brilliant .. Moving quickly downhill to outpatients appalling. I have since had two operations to correct the mess that I was left in - 7 months of pain and agony for no reason. Sorry not good enough :(

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on NHS Choices. We are very sorry that following your good emergency care at Frimley your care as an outpatient did not live up to expectations. We are also sorry that you did not receive a response to your letter. It would be very helpful to us if you were able to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 01276 526530, palsusers@fph-tr.nhs.uk to provide more details that might help us to improve the service in future or if there is any more we could do to help you.
