"frustrating"

About: Tewkesbury Hospital

Minor injuries unit wouldn't change my sons dressings because they 'didn't have the specialist equipment or person' to do it. Ie bandages or a nurse. Didn't even look at my son or dressings before being turned away. Absolutely appalling.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear about your experience, and would like to understand more about your son’s recent care at the Minor Injuries Unit so that we can take this information back into the team, and ensure that we take appropriate steps to improve our service. If you would be able to get in touch directly with our Service Experience team, we will be able to follow this up with you. You can contact the team on 0300 421 8313 between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday or email: yourexperience@glos-care.nhs.uk. Generally speaking, a decision to change a dressing depends on the type of injury it is protecting. So, for example, if it is a dressing for burns, it is often better for the patient if the dressing is changed in a specialist burns unit. This is because it is a more sterile environment than a Minor Injuries Unit to protect against infection, specialist dressings will be used and the injury will heal much better. In this example, and having taken a case history of a patient beforehand, an Emergency Nurse Practitioner would provide advice without any ‘hands on’ treatment. We would welcome the opportunity to follow your concerns up and thank you for leaving your feedback which will be discussed with our MIU team. Best wishes The team at Gloucestershire Care Services NHS Trust
