About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Gateshead)

I attended for a tv scan and I can tell you it was the worsed experience I have ever had at a hospital the girl that was doing my scan walked into the room oozing bad mood. She snarled at me do you know what you are here for and trued to do a scan on my stomach first and shouted at me how do you expect to do a scan if you havent drank enough! I told her I have drank 2 litres of water and she then snarled that I mustbhave been dehydrated and that I should know how much liquid I need to hydrate my organs and how much to fill my bladder. So I snarled back to her as I am notnin the habbit of measuring how.much water I take before I need to go to toilet I wouldnt know. She then told me to go to toilet and that she would need to do tv scan. When I came back in the room she gave me a piece of green roll to cover myself! This I found very degrading as no one shiuld be give paper to hide their dignity. She then went.on to do the scan and didnt look at all where she was putting the scanner! . I asked her if I could have a cooy of the result and was told that it was not department protocol to allow patients a cooy of the report. I asked her if she was aware of the access to health records and she told me that it was irrelivant as she decides whether a report is given or not. I lwft the department and went to pals offuce to complain. I asked her to ring the access to health records staff who advised me to write to them requesting result as you are entitled to it. This info I already knew as I worked in the nhs for 25 years. I then took the letter around to the department and they said that I could come and collect a copy the next day! As a member of ataff who is paid to have.empathy with their patients I find this person to be very rude and should not be allowed to work with the public if she cant leave her moods at home. I know peopke in the department to confirmed to me that she was in a bad mood and she also mouthed off in the deprtment about the incident and told them that she was kot going to give me a copy until she was told by the members of staff that she had to as it was law!

We're so sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience at the hospital, and the standard at which you should expect to be treated obviously feel short on this occasion. We see that you've already spoken to our PALS team, so your comments will have been officially recorded within our system and we can use them to improve the experience of other patients and look into what went wrong on your visit.
