"A Functional Neurological Disorder patient's view"

About: Peterborough City Hospital

I've had a long wait for diagnosis but when I finally reached the neurologist's office, I found her knowledgeable, sympathetic and informative. The only complaint I have is that there was no in-person follow up after the MRI came back clear and the diagnosis was confirmed, instead I was just discharged back to my GP with a diagnosis that is not easy to get one's head around! It would be more reassuring to remain under a neurologist. As it happens, I've had new symptoms which my GP has been left to handle and reassuring as he is, I feel that I've been somewhat abandoned by the specialist. I'm due to begin treatment soon (though that was a five month wait from confirmation of diagnosis to Beginning of therapy). Please take FND patients more seriously. I've joined a forum recently and there is a lot of confusion and even disbelief going on. More research is needed and more sympathetic neurologists like the lovely lady that I saw.

I apologise for the delay in this response.

Thankyou for your story. Following on we are having discussions as to whether we could employ a neurology specialist nurse to fill the 'information gap' that you mention. I do hope that your therapy is working for you.If you would like to discuss this further then do email me at annette.parker@pbh-tr.nhs.uk
