"Daycase Surgery at Harrogate May 2014"

About: Harrogate District Hospital

Had an orthopaedic operation at Harrogate Hospital. Excellent care with staff introducing themselves, their role and explaining things as the day went on. Great anaesthetic team who put me at ease with good pain control post op. What would I change? can anyone really think drawing a curtain around someone in an 8-bedded unit gives privacy to discuss their care. I was unable to avoid overhearing the discussions of the day surgery team with my neighbours about very personal information and was conscious of the same when it was my turn. Clinical care - excellent. Dignity and privacy - needs some thought.

Dear Clare Thank you very much for your useful feedback. I am very pleased to learn that the Orthopaedics team gace you the high quality care that we expect and will ensure that your comments are passed on to them. We know that patient privacy and dignity is very important and reguarly remind staff about this. We have also introduced a training course around giving high quality 'customer service' to our patients and their families or carers, which includes privacy and dignity. In fact, the exact example that you raise is used relating to curtains not blocking out sound. The course is being rolled out to all staff. Thank you again for taking the time to contact us.
