About: Charing Cross Hospital

I have been treated at Charing Cross for a number of different conditions, as has all my family. We are lucky to have the expertise of this important London teaching hospital available to us. Two years ago I was taken to Charing Cross as an emergency - through A&E - with what turned out to be life-threatening biliary sepsis. I was very lucky that the young doctor examining me in A&E quickly diagnosed what I was suffering from and admitted me for intravenous antibiotics. Sepsis kills 36?000 - 64?000 annually in UK, with mortality rate of 35%. Speed is of the essence in treating sepsis, as is case in treating stroke. Charing Cross has the UK’s best Stroke Unit, and is one of the top ten teaching hospitals in the world. Yet this wonderful irreplaceable hospital is under threat by people greedy to sell off the valuable land for property development. Can't believe it! Once gone it will be gone, with little to show for whatever money is paid for the land. St Mary's Paddington is already overburdened and won't replace it.
