Bariatrics - gastric band. Daughter had band removed recently due to it causing her health problems - ie cannot eat at all - being sick (common evidently) constant pain from port site and constant burping due to excess wind. Brilliant help from a nurse in Bariatrics who had taken time and trouble for my daughter to have her surgery early in the morning because of her sickness etc. On arrival at 7.30 am to surgical admissions we were told she was 4th on the list. Eventually had surgery at 3 pm after a miserable wait as she was unable to drink even after being sick etc. We saw no surgeon or anaesthatist ! How can you go through a surgical procedure without discussing anything with anyone! Very frightening for a 19 year old. Appalled to see so many nurses/assistants (because you cannot tell who anyone is any more) hanging around the "nurses station" yapping. I do not wish to hear about their boyfriends or sexual exploits the night before or over the weekend. Please train these people in professional standards as they obviously have no common sense pertaining to their jobs. We left the hospital at 7.30 pm. Car parking charge £9.40 and an extremely long walk from the new Jubilee building to the car park. Goodness knows how people with mobility issues will deal with this. As expected, my daughter came home with an infection and is now on her 3rd lot of antibiotics. I am also dismayed that the hospital can disregard a member of their own staff. The nurse took time and trouble to sort out the early surgery for my daughter - contacting the surgeon and phoning me back and all her good work was wasted. I quite appreciated that any emergency or insulin diabetics would obviously take precedence - there were 2 diabetics in the surgical admissions lounge but they both had to be put on drips by lunchtime because they had waited so long! A shambles. Please stop staff slouching about in "scrubs" - they look dirty and unprofessional. Have complained to Chief Executive but this just gets passed to PALS who cover up instead of making changes. Will just make a complaint to IHCA.
