Response from North Manchester General Hospital

Thank you for your general comments about our staff and the doctor you saw.

However, we are concerned to hear about the nurse who was chewing gum and was not seen to wash her hands. The Trust is extremely keen on all measures to control infection and to ensure that all staff observe the handwashing code. Patients and their relatives may challenge any member of staff if they believe they have forgotton to wash their hands. If this is difficult, they may inform another member of staff or the ward/department manager.

If you wish to let us have more information about the area you are referring to, we can address any further training needs. You can do this by emailing enquiries@pat.nhs.uk
