What I liked
Quite frankly not a lot
What could be improved
Improvements need to be made in all areas
Some of the staffs attitude when asked for help
Staffing levels are rridiculous
Facilities are non existant when the coffeeshop or newsagent closes.
cleanliness of the hospital is a joke, dirty toilets litter in the foyer etc
Below is a list of things that I personally found to be unacceptable whilst visiting my elderly terminally Ill mother.
1. Staff not listening or complying to patient wishes, in this case my mother did not wish to know the results of her tests if it was bad news. We arrived to find doctors discussing over her that her cancer had spread.
2. On 4 occaisions we arrived to find her buzzer for assistance had been put up on the bracket on the wall which I found diabolical considering that the patient was immobile. she was lying in a wet bed on one of the occaisions
3.One day the family were informed that she had refused medication when she was infact asleep as her other daughter and husband can verify as they were with her at the exact time this was meant to have occurred. Du to this we were then very sceptical as to exactly what she had and had not refused when were were being told of things.
4. The same day it took over half an hour to get painkillers for her, when going to find out what the delay was we found the nurses sat at the nurses station having a laugh and a joke.
5. Upon discharge we discovered that the Doctor had typed up all of her drugs notes ready for the District Nurses but had also typed his name rather than signed them therefore Mother could not get her much needed morphine until the distric nurse could get proper authorisation to administer it.
When checking the medication sent home from the pharmacy we found anitbiotics prescribed to another patient, had this been the morphine I dread ti think what could have happened.
All in all I think that Royal Blackburn Hospital is the best advertisement for BUPA that I have ever seen
