"Lack of communication / waiting times"

About: Princess Royal University Hospital (Orpington)

Still awaiting a letter for an appointment at the PRUH for an ultrasound scan on my abodmen and another on my testies. It has been 4 weeks since submitting my referral letters to the Radiology / Imaging Reception desk. In the end I gave up waiting for a letter so I decided to drive to the PRUH (for a second time) so my appointments could be made at the Radiology Reception desk. Why was I able to get a slot for both scans there and then? If there were slots available which clearly there were why was I not written to rather than me having to drive to the hospital to chase?

I am sorry that our processes appear complex. All radiology requests are usally vetted by a Radiology Consultant to determine that the investigation is appropriate and to plan the length of appointment required according to the type of investigation and any other factor such as complexity which might require a specialist radiologist to undertake the procedure. That takes a period of time although 4 weeks would appear longer than the usual turnaround time. When you decided to travel to the department to enquire about your appointments the vetting process must have been completed and staff were able to offer you appointments. I am sorry that you had to make such ahjourney and that our turnaround time was not faster. I have passed your comments on to the department manager.
