"Minor injury requiring stitches"

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary

On Wed Feb 19th I fell over in Wigston. A passer -by called an ambulance which I didn't really need and the paramedics who treated me were very gracious and thorough. They advised me that my elbow was badly cut and would required several stitches. I attended A&E at 6.00pm, and my total wait was around just over 3 hours. I really had no problem with this - my injury was minor and throughout my wait I was treated with great kindness and professionalism. I was offered pain relief immediately and everything was explained as we went along. The staff were working under a lot of pressure but I felt that my comfort was important to them. The only possible improvement would have been if such a minor injury could have been dealt with at my local walk-in centre, which sadly was not an option when I rang them before going to A&E. Overall I have nothing but praise for the treatment I received. Jill Walton.

Hi Jill Thank you so much for your lovely comments. Apologies for the lengthy delay in replying, not entirely sure why, but we have only just received your really kind feedback. We’re glad that you felt valued by our staff. This is always our aim and reflects the values of our hospital perfectly. Clearly if a patient can be treated at a drop-in centre then it will go some way to alleviating pressures on hospital A&E departments. However, that’s not to say you should have been treated somewhere else – it might not have been appropriate in this instance. We hope you have recovered now and wish you well. Kind regards, Communications Team Leicester’s Hospitals
