"A&E"

About: Princess Royal University Hospital (Orpington)

My brother who has terminal cancer was taken by ambulance to PRU A&E with breathing problems, It took 10hrs to find him a bed in a medical ward when he really needs the specialist care in the Chartwell Unit, he has only a few months to live but the staff failed to understand his condition and needs. I know that A&E is a high demand department but most of the patients there did not have life threatening conditions. There seemed to be more time spent on computers then with patients, not a good experience if the computers crashed how would they cope.

We are very sorry to hear about the problems your brother experienced in our Emergency Department. We would like to investigate this to see what went wrong and learn how we can improve our service to avoid a similar situation occurring in future. Please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) so that we can discuss your concerns. You can either email them on kch-tr.PALSkent@nhs.net or phone 01689 863 252.
