"Nurses and midwives surpassed themselves"

I stayed at the PRU maternity ward for over a week following a traumatic labour in November. I cannot thank the doctors, nurses, midwives and support/voluntary staff enough for their care and attention they gave me the whole time. I came into contact with a lot of different members of staff and every one of them went out of their way to ensure I was thoroughly looked after. They took my physical, emotional and personal wellbeing very seriously and I felt that they genuinely cared for me and my baby. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They understood the vulnerability that patients feel when staying in hospital especially for such a life changing experience as childbirth. Also the media tend to give the NHS a bashing so you expect things to be bad. Well all I could see was real life angels doing their best to help people and make them well. It really has made me believe in the NHS and how lucky I was to have been a patient there. My baby had a few problems at the start of his life and had to be monitored in the special baby unit. I felt so lucky to have such amazing care. We were only discharged when they were thoroughly happy with the health of both me and my baby. I was also given lots of help with breast feeding which I am sure is the reason I continued with the breastfeeding and intend to carry on. I think more women would if they had the same support and guidance that I got. Truly magical!
