"Brilliant from start to finish"

About: Stepping Hill Hospital

Went in on 8 May 2014 for a total hip replacement. On arriving slightly early at the admissions ward, D5, I was greeted with a friendly welcome and dealt with quickly and efficiently before being taken on to the ward. The nurse was excellent, providing all of the information that I might require and carrying out the necessary checks and paperwork. My consultant paid a quick visit for a final check, followed by the anaesthetist and we're ready to go to theatre. In the prep room and everything is explained, all very calm and relaxed. The first spinal injection doesn't work properly but again in a calm and professional manner everything is explained and injection number two works fine. I'm awake in ward D2 with a cup of tea and a very caring nursing team. This high standard of care (and pain relief) continues until my departure one day after the operation, having been seen by the physio, OT and bloods checked. 10/10. Many thanks to the nurses, staff etc at Stepping Hill. One final point, particularly for men, take a very loose fitting pair of trousers for going home as there is considerable swelling to the hip and leg.
