Since early 2006 I have been under the care of various Urologists at either Grantham, Boston and Lincoln Hospitals. On all but a few occasions I have experienced a range of attitudes ranging from condescension to disrespect. On those few occasions that I have been listened to and allowed to express a view on a particular issue relating to my condition, I have left the consulting room with the feeling that the Doctor/ Patient relationship on that occasion was built on mutual respect for each other which resulted in my having a full understanding of what was discussed due solely to the fact that the Doctor had taken the trouble to listen and act on what he had learnt during the discussion. I would love to be able to list the Urologists that I have been under the care of and who have behaved quite unprofessionally at times but that would serve no useful purpose other than warn other patients who may read this. I am fortunate enough to have a GP who will refer me to hospitals outside the Lincs NHS Trust area for urological issues I wouldn't want dealt with by Urologists in the Lincs NHS Trust and I would strongly recommend anyone who is unhappy with their treatment to explore the alternatives available to them under NHS Choices. Notwithstanding the above, I have nothing but praise for the nursing and technical staff I have come into contact with over the last decade. They have shown good listening skills and acted professionally at all times, often when under great pressure and I still have no concerns about placing myself in their care whenever the need arises.
