"St`Pauls Eye Department"

About: The Royal Liverpool University Hospital

I have been attending the Diabetic Clinic and St` Pauls for over 4 years now. When I first start to attend the clinics I was on my knees. (I am a Ex scouser living in Lincolnshire for the past 26 years, but my family still remain in Liverpool) Without going over old ground Lincolnshire has atrocious health care, whatever the reason maybe, and I was lucky to get referred to Liverpool UH by my GP to Prelog life and improve quality of life. The Diabetic Specialist Nurse and the Diabetic Specialist Consultant have been fantastic. I am convinced that without them I would have been in the wooden box some time ago. The first thing the specialist nurse did was to sit and listen, time after time again about me droning on about how bad things have been in Lincolnshire, I must have been a night mare (God bless you). Then she simply said “Forget what has gone before, we will start again and you will improve”. Simple words, and so what you may think. But what it did was to prove she listened and she cared... I was placed on Insulin Pump therapy which was hard to work with at the start. Being so poorly made it hard to concentrate and work with the technology. However slowly, slowly thing started to improve as I not only have a much better quality of life, but it also stopped the rot of diabetic related complications. Management is the key with good support by the health care professionals. Liverpool UH offers excellent diabetic support with a small team of dedicated, caring and experienced health care professionals by way of a consultant and diabetic nurse. I would highly recommend this department. I found it to be a similar situation with St Pauls. From my first visit to the second floor department of St` Pauls I was faced with a dedicated, hard working, caring and experienced department from the receptionist and nursing staff, right up to the specialist consultants. I felt welcome and nothing is too much trouble, and the most important thing is I am always kept well informed .In my view (excuse the pun) you would not find a more methodical, caring and experienced eye department in the country. Thank you to both departments, you deserve more than a few words from me. You are a credit to our wonderful NHS and proof that our hospitals can provide high standard of excellence. The Liverpool University Hospital in the heart of your fair city provides just that. High standards of care and excellence.....I rate you as a 5/5 star rating. Well done to all concerned.
