"Thank-you..."

I would like to thank Pebble Lodge for all of the help and treatment I have got whilst under their care. Unfortunately I cannot. Where I to say a thank-you for anything it would be the blatant lack of humanity you have shown me. Pebble Lodge has reinforced my belief that there is no decency in this world and there never will be. In a time of distressed and crippling depression I have both played witness to care bordering on the abusive and have in fact been involved in care that is most certainly abusive. I am mentally ill and am not hear to be bullied by condescending, belittling members of staff who seem to find it perfectly acceptable to destroy what little happiness I have left in my life. I am a sectioned patient, this admission is one of many for me and nothing has improved. Prisoners are treated better then patients at Pebble Lodge and although in my time have seen it help some people, the amount of adolescents it has devastated is far greater. There is a lot of room for improvement. It may sound like a horrific place and this may just be down to personal experience but I find that many people hold this view. Among the people working here there are few who seem to actually care. If you are looking at this to see what an admission would be like I can simply say it in one word ‘Hell’. Then again in the words of pebble staff; I am the one on the section and they are not. Who are you going to believe? Possibly not me. The redeeming feature of Pebble Lodge is the young people here. They offer me far more strength and support than anyone else within CAMHs. I wish them all the best… I, however, await eagerly for my eighteenth birthday because it is impossible that adult services to be any worse than this place. Please know that some staff are amazing and wish them the best of luck. They keep me afloat and give me hope in this place of degradation. But to those who make the already dark world I live in that tiny bit bleaker I should thank; you did prove me wrong. For a long time I thought that there could be nothing worse than living, there is; Pebble Lodge Adolescent Unit. Things Pebble needs to work on at this moment in time; - Communication - Consistency - Approach to young people - Egalitarianism - Justice *** The list could go on

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. At Pebble Lodge we place great value in treating the individuals in our care in a nonjudgmental way and with respect and dignity to promote recovery and wellbeing. I am very sorry that you feel this standard was not met during your time spent with us. We would appreciate the opportunity to discuss your experience. If you would like to meet and discuss the issues you have raised please let me know. You can contact me directly, or sometimes it’s easier to do this with the support of our Advocacy Service provided by Action for Children who can be contacted on 01202 525643 (who are independent of the service at Pebble Lodge). Alternatively you may wish to contact the IMHA service for your area which is provided by Dorset Mental Health Forum, who can be contacted on 01305 257172 . However, if you choose not to contact us the matter will be discussed with the inpatient team and with the wider staff group. Stuart Lynch, Specialist Nurse Practitioner
