Re: staff on duty, Paediatric Observation Ward, Thursday 8th January, afternoon.

My wife and I brought our 18month old boy Philip in following a GP referral from Wadebridge, for investigation of a sudden onset unilateral painful lameness. We arrived at the ward c.2pm, and were greeted by nurse , who took a detailed history and performed routine checks on Philip. Philip was then examined by a doctor , who again ran through very detailed history and examined Philip thoroughly.

Philip was referred for radiography, and we returned to the ward for blood sampling/catheter placement. A Senior Play Specialist, whose name I’m afraid I cannot recall, performed desensitisation routines with Philip, and together with use of topical analgesic gel and superb technique from staff, Phil’s sampling and catheterisation was performed with no discomfort or upset whatsoever.

At all stages we were kept fully informed of progress and likely outcomes of tests. Food offered for Phil was appropriate and very welcome. Following a final check with an orthopod Philip was discharged, and has been fine ever since.

I wanted to write to say how delighted we all were with every stage of Phil’s treatment, and all staff involved in his treatment. The professional approach to ensuring Phil’s comfort and attaining a diagnosis were truly exemplary, and I feel he truly had the Best of Care.

A sincere, big thank you to all involved.
