"Urology clinic - joke!"

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Gateshead)

My urology clinic appointment was a joke after 1hr5mins overun I walked out as the staff were unable to tell me when I could see the consultant and no one bothered to inform me and others why the clinic was so late. No wonder the NHS is in such a state.

We're sorry to hear that you've had such a disappointing experience in the urology clinic. We looked into this for you and quite rightly you should have been informed of the delays by the nurses in the clinic. We apologise that you and other patients in the waiting room weren't and assure you that we will learn from the mistake that occurred. As a rule we always announce delays, so we have reiterated the delay policy within outpatients to our nursing staff, which includes keeping patients informed. The clinic was delayed due to the volume of patients, and the clinic format which we will make sure that we also learn from. Please accept our apologies again and if you want to talk to someone about this further you can contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 0800 953 0667 or pals@ghnt.nhs.uk
