"Broken Wrist - Aftercare"

About: Queen's Hospital (Romford)

I attended the fracture clinic on 11/2/2014 to have my fibreglass cast put on having had a backslab put on at Harold Wood Polyclinic on the 5/2/2014. All was well no problems at all. I had an appointment on11/3/2014 to have the cast removed had a 15-20minute wait as there seemed to be a lot of patients there all at once and the waiting area was rather full what with wheelchairs and buggies was awkward to get a seat!! When I returned to fracture clinic I had to wait in the waiting area although the nurse thought I could go straight through. Got called through to the waiting area for the doctors and waited in a corridor for quite a while was eventually called and was told they had called me before but I was in a corridor not within earshot of the nurses calling patients to see the doctors, I think that is an area which needs to be looked at. I saw the doctor who just said it would be painful for a while but would get less painful over time he then discussed with his senior about an mri scan which would be sent through the post got another appointment for 3 weeks’ time. Attended clinic again on 1/4/2014 saw a different doctor who wondered why I had come because the mri scan was not until the 5/4/2014 at 10.10pm! He asked me to come back in 4 weeks to get the mri scan results, at that appointment I asked about physiotherapy as my hand was stiff and still had some pain I wasn't given any exercises to do after my plaster came off which I thought i would have been given as I had a plaster cast on for 5 weeks!! Came back to clinic on 29/4//2014 for results of mri scan I waited for an hour only to be told that the results of the scan were not available and with lots of apologies from the nurse she made me an appointment for the 6/5/2014 . I attended clinic on the 6/5/2014 to be given the all clear from the mri scan and was discharged from queens hospital.

Thank you for your comment. I’m glad that your first appointment went well, and I thank you also for your feedback regarding the waiting area, which I will pass on to the team at Harold Wood Polyclinic. I am, however, sorry that there was a miscommunication with your follow-up appointment, but pleased to know that you have been given the all clear and hope you have fully recovered. Yours sincerely Flo Panel-Coates Director of Nursing
