"Doc in A&E left me in disbelief"

About: Lincoln County Hospital

I attended the A&E and was greeted by a very nice lady on reception who booked me in. I had fallen a week before on my right arm/wrist and landed pretty hard but assumed it was just badly bruised so did not want to go upto A&E initially as I did not want to waste their time for something or nothing. A week later the pain was still there especially in my wrist and arm and the swelling on my wrist was still apparent. I was seen by a nurse who assessed me, she was very nice and examined my wrist and arm, she sent me to XRAY. XRAY department very effecient and once done asked me to go and wait back in reception and a doctor would call me. So far so good impressed! . ...The next stage was a Joke ! A doctor called my name, took me through to a treatment room and proceeded to ask me'what can I do for you today?' I looked at him puzzled but he went on to quote chapter and verse of the process for people who visit A&E beginning with he as a doctor assesses me, then he decides my treatment very patronising. I knew exactly what the process was it was him who had no idea I had already been assessed - been for xrays etc. Do they not read patients notes, very scary. When he finally realised he picked up the notes and disappeared I assume to find the xray results, he returned a few minutes later, sticking his head round the corner for a brief moment to say nothing was found you can go... before I could say anything he was gone again. He did not even examine my wrist himself, share the xrays or even explain why I maybe in so much pain...I was left wondering if he had actually found the xrays or bothered to look at them, I was not confident of either...I got his name from the receptionist and I will be putting a letter of complaint in. Doctors are suppose to caring - we as individual's rely on them to reassure us patience, this one showed neither. My wrist is still swollen, tender to touch and I continue to be in pain so something is not as it should be and I'm no doctor!.

We are very sorry that this was your experience and are grateful for your feedback on this. This is not what is expected of our clinicians and I will be addressing these issues with them to ensure that it does not happen again. If there are any concerns regarding your continued symptoms then please don’t hesitate to contact the department or to attend for further review.
