"Mixed sex accommodation"

About: Sandwell General Hospital

My elderly sister was recently admitted to the Acute Medical Ward at Sandwell General Hospital. I was more than a little surprised to find her accommodated in a mixed sex bay. Surely this was outlawed by the Government several years ago? We have absolutely no complaints about her treatment. All staff from the Cardiologist down to the ward auxiliaries we very competent and caring. It was however distressing to find her 'flanked' by men. Come on Sandwell Hospital treat your patients with a little more dignity and respect and if it is absolutely necessary to mix sexes, at least separate the beds with the curtains.

Thank you for your comments. It is pleasing to hear that you thought our staff were caring and very competent. However we do take on board your concerns about mixed sex wards and will be looking into this further. Toby Lewis, Chief Executive
