Due to an unsuccessful Angioplasty operation in March my Mum was informed that she will have to have her leg amputated at the age of 74 that news was not easy to take for not only for my mum but our family to. She was admitted beginning April and was on the "Emergency Operation List" due to the severity of the pain . She has been in the royal over 5 weeks now had her op around 2 weeks ago . I have visited her every single day while she has been in and the weeks leading to her operation was horrendous i have lost track of how many times my mums op was cancelled due to an Emergency case. I appreciate the fact that the royal is an extremely busy 24/7 hospital with incredibly hardworking staff . However i do not appreciate my mum being told her op would be the following morning first thing, no pain relief nil by mouth from 8pm the previous evening ahe was ready for theater by 8am , i came in at 3pm to find my mum still waiting to go for her op only to be told " oh sorry didnt they tell you it had been cancelled* ! my mum had no pain relief food or drink for 15 hrs and no-one had the decency nor respect to tell my mum who i imagine was so nervous anyway, as well as hungry, thirsty in pain. That is just one of many examples of serious lack of communication in this hospital . To be told at 74 you are going to lose your leg is bad enough but to endure a rollercoaster of emotions psyching herself up for her op so many times and get messed about then not being able to find someone who can tell us what happening has been beyond stressful. Now 2 wks after her op she was told she was going to be transferred to Broadgreen she sat in her wheelchair all day waiting to go when i rang to see if she had at 7pm she was still in the royal i rang her phone and yet again no-one had bothered to tell my mum she was not gonna be getting moved that night. To tell her would have taken them all of 2 seconds yet no-one had the decency to give my mum a bit of respect and tell her instead of leaving her waiting.
