I recently attended North Devon Hospital for a bladder tumour resection. Although I was informed I may have to stay 1 or 2 nights, in the event I was discharged at the end of the first day.
I was requested to arrive at 7.30am but it was not until 1.30pm that I was taken into theatre. On waking up in recovery, I knew from reading the information leaflets that I should be drinking. I had to ask for water repeatedly while lying in recovery.
A bed was not available until after 5pm i.e. over 3 hours after coming round. By about 8pm my urine was largely free of blood and I was allowed to go home. Previously I asked whether I should be taking my usual medication (Tamsulosin and Finasteride) which I still had in my possession. There was some doubt about this but I took the tablets anyway.
Despite the above, all staff were very pleasant and friendly.
