"I was a walk in into A&E with ..."

About: Princess Royal Hospital (Haywards Heath)

(as the patient),

What I liked

I was a walk in into A&E with a suspected miscarriage - the staff took me straight to a private room and made me comfortable. They were prompt, sympathetic and allowed my family to stay with me all the time. When I was admitted and taken up to the ward, I was given my own room and the nurses were attentive and caring 24/7. I felt safe and completely looked after medically and emotionally.Considering the tough situation I was going through I felt completely comfortable and safe.

What could be improved

As a result of me being admitted, I had to stay in hospital for 6 days and then was informed I needed an operation - I was told it would be done within 24 hours by the consultant but the next day they discharged me and my op was 6 days later! But I only discovered this by several telephone calls - no one rung me to inform me! Communication needs to be improved, whilst the care I received at the hospital was brilliant afterwards was sloppy and confusing.

Anything else?

This hospital is the best one in this area, East Surrey and Brighton are a shambles and if they even consider closing PRH it will be the biggest mistake ever made. PRH is fantastic and as a patient and a visitor I have always felt safe and well cared for. Without this resource, myself and others will be left scared and worried, if we ever needed to attend hospital, we are left with Brighton and East Surrey who are unreliable and over worked already!! SAVE PRH - we cannot do without this resource!!!
