"Fertility treatment"

About: Worcestershire Royal Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

My husband and I struggled to conceive our second child for almost 3 years. During that time, I had a number of procedures, met many different consultants and tried various strategies and I can honestly say, it was the most stressful time of my life and I came dangerously close to becoming quite depressed.

When I arrived for an appointment with Mr Watts at WRH, my husband and I were at a very low point having been told by a consultant at a different hospital that our only option was IVF (in that meeting we were not listened to and were simply given prices for IVF - we left very very down).

Straight away, the service and way we were treated at WRH was superior to that and excellent in every way. First of all, a nurse spoke to us for 30 mins and actually listened to our story ( really listened! ) - we then met Mr Watts and of course, he is a very busy consultant but we never felt rushed and he reassured us and just gave us respect and time- it was so different to our experiences up to that date and I felt so much better knowing I was being cared for by Mr Watts.

I was given some medication for fertility and my cycle was tracked to see if the drugs were working. Mr Watts tracked me in the early morning so it didn't interfere with my working day too much and I could still go to work. Other consultants had told me tracking is no longer done in the NHS- so you can see how lucky I felt to have been treated at such a fantastic place.

The medication did not work for me, well I don't think it did. Mr Watts told me there was one more treatment to try before the dreaded IVF( but he let me try other things and never ever said it's IVF or nothing). 3 months later I was still waiting for my period so I could start the last treatment when I found out I was pregnant- I was pretty much in shock for the full 9 months but well, baby is here now, 8 months old tomorrow and doing very very well. I wanted to tell my story before things get busy with work etc... I will never forget the outstanding treatment I received from Mr Watts. When I see the negative media coverage of the NHS, I always think back to those difficult 3 years.
