"Lovely friendly staff"

About: Kettering General Hospital

Lovely staff, Midwifes and general all round nice atmosphere. Only thing that I didn't like was that I wasn't in labour (monitored) & was put in a room with people in labour that had kept me up all night, buzzing, moaning & generally monitoring, loud machines etc... I was in for nearly 2 weeks and in those two weeks I was moved to rooms with 'labour' mums. A couple of which who was in very early labour was aloud there family (3/4) people around there bed most of day &a night. Me and my partner respected the times and he left and arrived accordingly. Others never and no one said anything... I felt very alone and isolated due to partner leaving early ect. I had pre-eclamsia and didn't feel very well. I had a daughter at home in which I hardly seen due to being in hospital and not wanting her to be in a room with other labouring mums. Overall te staff was lovely, but as there was so many beds free I would of preferred to be in a room with mums in same situation or at least not having contractions.. I didn't sleep well at all and was completely exhausted & drained xx

Thank you for your comments, I am pleased to hear that you found the staff lovely and friendly. It is always our intention to make the women who choose to deliver their babies with us feel welcome. However, it is very disappointing to hear that you feel some patients were afforded greater flexibility to visiting than yourself and that you were not always accommodated in a room that allowed you to rest well. I have forwarded your comments to the Matron who manages Rowan Ward so that she can reinforce the visiting policy to all staff. It would be helpful to know your name and the dates of your stay to better understand whether you found yourself sharing with patients who affected your sleep because of activity on the ward, or whether we could have done more to accommodate you more comfortably. If you feel happy to provide this information or would like to meet to discuss the issues you raise more fully, then please contact me on 01536 491594. Nicki Perry Delivery Suite Matron
