I have been a patient attending the Humber Pain Clinic for several years. I am a carer for my teenage son with Cerebral Palsy and my husband who contracted Meningitis 10 years ago, so I have to juggle appointments for us all. I have cancelled, with notice, two appointments for myself at the pain clinic in the last two months due to reasons out of my control. One an important appointment for my son and the other I was suffering from a gastric bug and did not think it appropriate to attend a hospital.
Even though I had valid reasons I have been told I have been discharged, as the hospital policy is to discharge after two cancellations regardless of the reasons. I now have to go to the GP take up an appointment and ask him for a new referral all of which is unnecessarily time consuming for myself as a carer and my GP. I think it would be great to have a mark on carers records to flag up that maybe appointments may need to be changed because of the needs of those we care for. I am under enough stress without this extra pressure and now no pain control.
