"Successful Hip Operation"

About: Queen Alexandra Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

I am writing this review to let other people know about the outstanding service my Aunt received from Queen Alexandra Hospital Staff. The procedure was a replacement hip in Jan 2014, the wards were D5 & D6. At eighty eight years of age it goes without saying that my Aunt might have found a procedure of this kind a challenge? Sadly my Uncle passed away the day before my Aunts operation. These were clearly difficult times for my Aunt and also for me her next of kin. I was now organising a funeral for my Uncle and my Aunts aftercare for when she came home. The list of staff that excelled in service delivery is extensive but all deserve a mention because from the preliminary meeting with the consultant, through education at the joint school, pre-op preparation, x ray department, operating & recovery team, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, pharmacist, nursing/ward staff, then finally the staff & volunteer who manned the discharge lounge were all exceptional. The hip operation booklet was excellent, useful and well thumbed resource over the following weeks. If that was not enough of a roll call. I will also mention the social worker who organised the home care and the equipment store who delivered equipment they also did their jobs seamlessly. This was an outstanding example of multi-disciplinary working at its best. My Aunt now five months on is living independently, pain free and walking completely unaided. Thank you to the staff concerned, yes I would definitely recommend having a hip replacement at this hospital.
