"Stay in hospital"

About: Stepping Hill Hospital

I was admitted via A&E on Thurs 1st May with query a stuck gallstone. I was admitted initially to C3 and then moved to Short Stay Surgical and have nothing but praise for the staff on these 2 wards. I had an ultrasound scan on the Friday which showed no gallstones - but the consultant said he wanted to do an endoscopy and and an MRI scan which I may be able to have as an out-patient if my pain improved and was under control. On the Saturday I was moved to D1 and this is where it all went wrong. The night staff and some of the day staff were lovely but they were let down by the attitude of a couple of the day staff. I had no sooner arrived on the ward than the sister said she believed I was going home - this was not what had been agreed between myself and the Dr. I was reviewed on the tuesday and the Dr's exact words were "see how you go today and maybe home tomorrow". The Sister, however, decided I was going home that day and gave me a "leaving hospital" form and a patient satisfaction survey to fill in - left those on the end of the bed. I asked the staff nurse for pain relief and she said my Co-codamol wasn't due for another hour - I was written up for oramorph as well but she wouldn't give me any pain relief. Staff Nurse took so long to come and get me my tablets out my locker that I had no chance to get a bottle of water and take painkillers before I had get bus home (they were "due" by this time - so I had sit on bus for an hour with no pain relief. According to my discharge letter I was discharged with 3 lots of medication - but only issued with 1, when i rang the ward to ask about the painkillers the Nurses attitude was "you're on repeat prescription from your GP for them so what's your problem?" I am actually thinking of asking my GP to send me to Tameside for my endoscopy and MRI scan and my follow up care as i do not feel I want to return to Stepping Hill. Don't know if the Sister wanted me out as I was a General Surgery patient and D1 is an orthopaedic ward
